Abitibi Canyon Loop – 300 km

Cochrane is the entry point to Ontario’s famous Northern Corridor du Nord trail system and a sign near town welcomes you to “The World’s Best Snowmobile Trails”.

You can find out for yourself whether this is true by taking a ride on the 300 km Abitibi Canyon Loop. But don’t be so mesmerized by its superb trails that you miss the main attractions – the view from the Abitibi River dam and off trail boondocking on the snowy slopes of the Abitibi Canyon.

Yes, if an exhilarating mix of stellar trail riding and powder playing are right up your alley, then go there – do that with the Abitibi Canyon Loop!

This route begins in Cochrane via the TOP A trail west to the A103 to the Abitibi Canyon and back down to Smooth Rock Falls to the TOP A east back to Cochrane.

 

Gateway to the North Tour – 215 km

Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls are your gateway communities as you explore the eastern most portion of the District.

This tour takes you along breathtaking hydro corridors and through scenic Greenwater Park, our newest hidden secret. Bring your camera along as you don’t want to miss capturing those gorgeous snow covered trees on your journey.

 

The tour begins in Cochrane on the TOP A trail west towards Smooth Rock Falls. For those that require gas, they can continue along the TOP A to Smooth Rock Falls and back to connect to the TOP C trail just east of Smooth Rock Falls. TOP C trail; A106C; L103; TOP A trail north to Cochrane.

 

Missinaibi Expedition Tour -165 km

The historic Missinaibi River is a site that snowmobilers will not want to miss.

This tour takes snowmobile tourists along the Missinaibi River and through the woodlands north of Mattice and Hearst.

The Missinaibi River was the main route from Lake Superior to the James Bay during fur trade times. Riders are almost guaranteed to see moose and wolf tracks in the area so keep your camera ready. Explore this historic route and ride some of the Province’s premier northern trails.

 The route begins in Hearst on the TOP A to the L159; L169; L163; L165; L159; L159: L161; L153 to the TOP A trail into Mattice. Riders will then take the Top A West to connect with the L155 and back to the TOP A in Hearst.

The Bobcat Loop - 90 km

Hornepayne is a snowmobile friendly community that is popular with many tourists. Upon arriving in Hornepayne, many riders will want to stay for a day or two and ride the local trails.

Explore the gorgeous scenery of the north and keep an eye out for local wildlife. There are other loop options that the tourists may take but this one seems to be a favorite. You won’t regret the experience of riding these outstanding trails.

The route begins in Hornepayne by taking the TOP A South trail; the L191; the Top A West; the L181 and back to the TOP A South to their starting point in Hornepayne.

 

The Lumberjack Loop - 145 km

This loop encompasses the very popular L123 trail which takes riders though or near 4 communities in the district - Moonbeam, Kapuskasing, Val Rita - Harty and Opasatika.

Lumberjacks are a strong symbol of the history of area communities. Many men worked hard in the bush to provide for their families. While travelling this route you may see some of the modern logging activities of today. This loop takes riders on various types of trails such as hydro corridors, old logging roads, tree lined trails and provides the opportunity to possibly see local wildlife possibly including lynx, moose, wolves, foxes and rabbits.

 This route begins in Kapuskasing on the A trail heading west to the L147; TOP A West; L147; TOP A West; L123 to TOP A west in Moonbeam; L135 ; Top A West back to Kapuskasing.

 

Northern Corridor Adventure - 1,645 km

Located between Cochrane and Hornepayne in OFSC District 15 This 1,645-kilometre odyssey across the TOP A Trail takes in all five of OFSC District 15's outstanding loops. 

There are two entry points on which to begin your Corridor Adventure.  You can enter from from Cochrane  via the TOP A trail where the sign close to the town welcomes you to "The World's Best Snowmobile Trails" or you can enter by Hornepayne on the TOP D108A from Dubreuville. 

You can decide where you want your adventure to begin and where to end.
